If you don’t know Matty Bovan’s name you might recognise his face – either from Instagram, where the fashion designer and CSM grad has gained a following thanks to his off-kilter beauty looks, from Marc Jacobs’ AW16 campaign in which he stars alongside Sky Ferreira, or maybe even Dazed’s just-dropped autumn 2016 issue, in which he featured in a shoot photographed by Annie Collinge. However you’re about to hear a lot more about Bovan because it has just been announced that he’ll be making his LFW debut in September, as part of support scheme Fashion East’s SS17 showcase.

“I’m super excited to be showing my new collection with Fashion East,” Bovan told us via email. “The pedigree of their former designers is amazing and I’m very happy to be part of it.” This pedigree includes the likes of Meadham Kirchhoff, J.W.Anderson, Craig Green and Wales Bonner to name but a few. 

Bovan graduated from CSM back in February of last year, sending an explosive collection out on to the school’s MA Fashion show. Crafted into sculptural shapes, his graduate collection fused different colours and textures with clay, lurex and neon, making a glittering display that defied conventional notions of knitwear. 

Since graduating, Bovan has been extremely busy – but not just with Instagram and Marc Jacobs campaigns. “I won the LVMH graduate prize and then had a stint at Louis Vuitton. I worked with Marc Jacobs on a print used extensively in the SS16 collection and with perfumers Miller Harris on three projects which was great to expand my portfolio and apply my aesthetic to a different product. I was also lucky enough to work with Miu Miu on their recent presentation in Paris.”

But what can we expect from his upcoming collection? “It’s my version of a wardrobe, loaded with colour and texture,” he says, giving us the smallest of hints. “It’s twisted glamour. Very me.”
