The designer’s agenda-setting debut saw him combine the architectural style of the house’s founder and the anarchic attitude of Vetements. One season in, and the designer’s vision has so far only extended to the house’s womenswear collections – however, that’s all about to change. Today, Balenciaga has announced that it will be putting on a men’s show during Paris Men’s Fashion Week in June, the first that the house has staged in its 99-year history. “The show will debut the masculine vision of Balenciaga’s new artistic director Demna Gvasalia, showcasing his first men’s collection for the historic maison,” reads a statement from the house. With many members of the Parisian creative underground on board – such as stylist and Dazed contributing fashion editor Lotta Volkova and DJ Clara 3000 – Gvasalia’s Balenciaga represents a fresh wave of creative energy surging through the city right now. As for how this will translate to menswear, time will tell.
