It would be an understatement to say things are tough for young designers in London. Along with rent increases, university fee hikes and an almost impossibly fast fashion system to compete with, it seems almost miraculous that anyone without the financial backing of their parents or three jobs on the side manages to produce and show seasonal collections.

Thankfully, London is rife right now with support systems on hand harnessing young creative talent. Revived last year after a short break in 2012, Lee Lapthorne’s On|Off platform was founded, “as a result of a need for change and a rebellion from the establishment. For me, it was to support my friends – the designers and artists around me to create an immersive and exciting professional environment in which to showcase.”

Initially launched in 2007, since inception the platform has housed shows from names such as J.W. Anderson, Pam Hogg and Louise Gray,  this year's On|Off schedule is a one-day affair, celebrating and exploring the 40th anniversary of the inception of punk.

“Punk is an attitude, an energy, a formidable passionate force for what you believe in, in a dynamic and strong way. Punk is being proud to be different – when everyone is running one way – step out and turn left, head in the other direction,” Lapthorne says.

After a day of shows and presentations, the team behind On|Off will showcase the work of three emerging designers (Robert Wun, Jayne Pierson, and Kevin Geddes) in the final throes of the event with a live performance from band Baby Strange, and photo shoot streamable in real time via the below video.
