A fascination with youth subculture and an infatuation with music run deep throughout his work, of which these photographs of surfer and guitarist Dylan Lee (the son of Pamela Anderson and Tommy Lee) are a prime example. In a series of black and white images, Slimane captures the 18-year-old walking topless down a California beach. Musicians and celebrity offspring appear on the Saint Laurent runways almost as frequently as professional models. Clementine Creevy, Cherry Glazerr’s guitarist and lead singer has made a catwalk appearance in the past; as have Staz Lindes, the model/guitarist daughter of The Dire Straits’ Hal Lindes and Dylan Brosnan (son of Pierce). The brand’s “Music Project” also made headlines, in which Slimane cast music icons such as Joni Mitchell and Courtney Love as the faces of Saint Laurent campaigns. In keeping with his love for Los Angeles, Slimane announced the unorthodox move to relocate Saint Laurent’s upcoming AW16 show to the City of Angels. Dubbed a “tribute to music” and staged just one day before this year’s Grammy Awards, the move is exemplary of a designer that works according to his own codes.
