Well, we’re giving you and a person of your choice the opportunity to attend the event. Along with being among the first to see the collection, you’ll get to go backstage to meet the house’s creative director Olivier Rousteing and rub shoulders with the #BalmainArmy. More designers are choosing to make their shows an inclusive affair: at New York Fashion Week, Riccardo Tisci invited 1,200 members of the public to Givenchy, and more recently, Marques’Almeida and Jacquemus launched competitions, offering tickets to their shows as prizes. Olivier is another proponent of this “fashion for all” philosophy – something that is evident in the way he engages with a mass audience on Instagram and uses pop culture (and its icons) to speak to a wider audience. “I want to communicate my vision to people,” he told us earlier this year. “And nothing better than pop to communicate with, you know?” His advocacy for fashion’s democratisation is also clear in the way he champions racial diversity in his shows and campaigns. “It comes easy for me to bring diversity in fashion ‘cause what makes the world beautiful today is THE DIVERSITY #justlookaround and understand the world you live in,” the designer revealed during our Facebook Q&A with him.
