The news comes as Wang’s eponymous brand approaches its tenth anniversary – a landmark he’s celebrating by reissuing some of his most iconic archive pieces. Rumours surrounding Wang’s departure have been circulating for a month, but were confirmed this morning by WWD, in a report based on “market sources”. According to them, the designer will show his swansong collection for Balenciaga during Paris Fashion Week this September and though the reasons behind his departure aren’t clear, the search for his successor is already underway. Regarding this successor, Kering (who own the historic house) are allegedly “open to considering a lesser-known, hidden talent for the plum post,” emboldened by Alessandro Michele’s success at Gucci. Let’s just hope Paddy Power will accept bets on it, like they did with Gucci...
