Kenzo create a dystopian world of stunt riders and smoke in their new CLOUDBUSTING film
To follow the latest Spring/Summer offering from recently revived cult brand KENZO comes the release of CLOUDBUSTING, a film directed by creative duo Partel Olivia in which they construct a dystopian world populated by stunt riders and helmeted acrobats, around a solitary figure who, in following her own lead, "splinters the perfect order".
The duo, who currently oversee the brand’s artistic direction, present their interpretation of the recent AW13 Men’s collection and Women’s pre-collection, in which they note an almost contradictory contrast, "precise and technical, as if powered by a definite sense of purpose, but also embellished and decorated with painterly motifs" wanting to recreate the experience of this first impression "by finding the perfect world from which these looks were beamed, and the duty to which they were dedicated".
Creative Directors Carol Lim and Humberto Leon, who revived the brand alongside their own thriving retail label Opening Ceremony, articulate the duality of the nature of clouds, of day and night, that form the key motifs on which the collections centre: "such a mystical, magical entity… [embodying] a certain permanence and presence, but constantly transforming themselves".
