Rein Vollenga

"Right now I'm obsessed with weapons. Especially hand crafted objects like guns, harpoons, knives, arrows and ninja stars"

Planet Terror

Dutch-born sculptor Rein Vollenga's work has been displayed in worldwide galleries and touted by the likes of Lady Gaga. Vollenga regularly transgresses the traditional boundaries of sculpture by producing tangible and wearable pieces for a whole host of fashion brands - Mugler, New Power Studio and Cassette Playa - as well as magazines, including Dazed & Confused. Vollenga talks of his obsession with armoury and their potent sexualised power.

Recently I watched the movie Planet Terror by Robert Rodriquez and totally fell in love with the character Cherry Darlin (Rose McGowan). She is so incredibly sexy with her Machine gun prosthetic!

"Right now I'm obsessed with weapons. Especially hand crafted objects like guns, harpoons, knives, arrows and ninja stars. The combination of beauty and violence intrigues me greatly and it's a repeating theme in my work as I try to seduce the viewer with aesthetics and craftsmanship. By using beauty I invite the viewer for a second look that might not be so pretty as they first thought it would be. Recently I watched the movie Planet Terror by Robert Rodriquez and totally fell in love with the character Cherry Darlin (Rose McGowan). She is so incredibly sexy with her Machine gun prosthetic! This partly inspired me to start working on some large scale sculptures based on bodies and weapons. More to come soon...."
