It was an intuitive decision when Raf Simons created a capsule collection for Fred Perry in 2008. The English brand, named after the tennis champion, is inextricably linked with British tribes – mods and skinheads for two. And tribes have been a fixation for Simons since he established his brand in 1995.

After three seasons off, the collaborative line is revived in good circumstances. Simons' eponymous menswear label is a state of independence again, with a brilliant modernist grunge S/S13 collection, and the Belgian now enjoys rarified couturier status, still bathing in the glow of his A/W12 debut at Christian Dior.

In 28 styles and colour options, pieces are adorned with checks, crest and pied de poule, floral print and camouflage pattern in contrasting colours; scaled up out of proportion until they almost lose their language. Whilst the classic polo has a detachable collar.
