Since graduating from Central St. Martin’s in 1999, Jensen has combined his talents with graphics and embroidery to create quirky, retro and detail driven, yet wearable designs. His playful aesthetic has been inspired by the likes of Cindy Sherman, Sissy Spacek, and Catherine Deneuve. Now, Jensen’s AW11 collection, presented in a look book starring The Like’s Tennesse Thomas and BlackBlack’s Diva Dompe, shot in LA with stylist Shirley Kurata and photographer Autumn de Wilde, showcases the designers latest range of clothing. Inspired by Danish actress and star of Jean-Luc Godard’s Une Femme est Une Femme, Anna Karina, the collections pillarbox reds, textured whites, sky blues and charcoal greys, set alongside chic knit, fuses Jensen’s signature style with the simplicity of the 60s aesthetic. Peter Jensen talks to Dazed Digital about the collection. Dazed Digital: Your new collection is presented in the lookbook shoot featuring Tennesse Thomas and Diva Dompe, can you tell us a bit about working with them?Peter Jensen: It was great, they're both really good fun, it was interesting to work with non-models. Tennessee's middle name is Bunny, which seemed quite appropriate. DD: In what ways did actress Anna Karina inspire your collection?Peter Jensen: She has really good style, it's always a good balance of being casual and chic. I love how she looks in the Godard films, though I don't always love the films. DD: Umbrella’s of Cherbourg was another inspiration for the collection – are you drawn towards the 60s aesthetic?Peter Jensen: Yes, I am at the moment, I like the simplicity of the shapes, and the colours. I like all those Jacques Demy films, Catherine Deneuve looks amazing in them. I've used a lot of the Michel Legrand music from these films for catwalk shows. DD: What are Peter Jensen’s Autumn/Winter essentials?Peter Jensen: Knitwear I think, I like the idea you can put a big jumper on over a dress, it's very easy (and very Anna-Karina). DD: You’ll be celebrating your 10th anniversary this year – how would you describe your ten years in fashion?Peter Jensen: Hectic. They've gone by very fast, it's hard to believe it's been so long.
