War Games Get Moral

Published 44 months ago

War Child take a look at a different kind of war game.

It's not often that War Child will take a lesson from the U.S. military but there's no denying that they're good at at least one thing - making video games.

A couple of years ago the US army made headlines for it's involvement in Full Spectrum Warrior and later America's Army. The former was based on a training simulation for soldiers, the latter developed as a marketing tool for recruitment. Both got a pretty hard time for their moral content but FSW in particular was considered a quality game and the 30 million+ AA can't be wrong can they?

But now NGOs and educators might have a game that can compete. Global Conflicts: Palestine (developed by Serious Games) is not your average worthy flash game. It's a journalism simulation (keep reading) that places you in the heart of the Israel-Palestine conflict. As a journalist you make difficult moral decisions on bias, treatment of sources etc and file stories accordingly. On the face of it this sounds about as much fun as the conflict itself but the atmospheric 3D graphics are designed to immerse the player and make them fully appreciate the gravity of the situation. Add to this some excellent gameplay and you’ve got a game that can jump from the pages of Education Guardian to the pages of Edge.
