At just over two minutes long, the teaser features brief appearances from Ryan Gosling, Harrison Ford and a pretty desolate looking landscape. The film was first announced last year – though plot details have been kept tightly under wraps. So far, we know that Denis Villeneuve will be directing the project, and that Gosling and Ford will be joined by Jared Leto, Mackenzie Davis and Robin Wright. According to the official synopsis, the story will follow new LAPD Officer K (Gosling) as he attempts to make contact with Rick Deckard (Ford), a retired blade runner who has been missing for 30 years. Villeneuve hinted in an interview earlier this year that the sequel would be set in a manmade apocalypse, brought on by global warming. “The climate has gone berserk – the ocean, the rain, the snow is all toxic,” the director told Entertainment Weekly. “Things seem to have generally become more horrible since the first movie, as humanity has continually trashed the planet and ignored the consequences. It might not be particularly subtle, but it does seem appropriately Blade Runner-y; after all, most animals had been eradicated and replaced by synthetics by the time of the first film. Nature is obviously next to go.” Blade Runner 2049 will be released on October 6, 2017. Watch the full teaser above. Escape the algorithm!
