Appearing among additional foodie favourites, including a pretzel and a pie, The Unicode Consortium (emoji HQ) has announced today that it will be releasing more life like emojis for the everyday user. Having undergone a gruelling process of proposals and approval, the latest update introduces a breastfeeding mother, a heavily bearded man, a “nude person in a steamy room” and a Muslim woman wearing a hijab that looks very similar to the recently submitted proposal by a 15-year-old Saudi girl. Rayouf Alhumedhi received the support of Reddit’s co-founders when she said: “Roughly 550 million Muslim women on this earth pride themselves on wearing the hijab. With this enormous number of people, not a single space on the keyboard is reserved for them” Emojis have become so significant to our daily lives that The Museum of Modern Art recently purchased the original set to add to their collection. The tiny images were proven to have a big impact on users when previous updates that showcased a range of skin colours were met with positive reviews and with each update users have access to more symbols that reflect their everyday lives. Other proposals which were successful were for the apparition and fair representation of a vampire and vomiting human. A true representation of the intricacies of human life. Escape the algorithm!
