The film has been over 20 years in the making, and is loosely based on Irvine Welsh’s novel Porno. It reunites all four surviving characters from the 1996 original, including Renton (Ewan McGregor), Begbie (Robert Carlyle), Sick Boy (Jonny Lee Miller) and Spud (Ewen Bremner). From the looks of the trailer, the film will be a very modern update to the story, with the two-minute clip slipping in references to “zero hour contracts”, “revenge porn”, “slut shaming” and social media. In an interview with Dazed last month, Welsh was guarded over the plot details of the sequel. “(The characters are) all at pretty different places in their life and have responded to the last twenty years in different ways,” he teased. T2: Trainspotting will be released on January 27 in the UK, February 2 in Australia and February 3 in the US. Watch the full trailer above. Escape the algorithm!
