Well it now looks like BitTorrent is following suit. Despite its old rep as a much-exploited file-sharing platform, the company is now rebranding; offering a new scheme that will give out cash grants to aspiring artists, filmmakers, and musicians. The initiative, known as ‘The Discovery Fund’, will award up to $100,000 (£76,000) each to 25 creators. According to BitTorrent guidelines, eligible applicants will have to propose an effective piece of marketing or promotion for the company, in order to be in with a shot of winning. “Over the next year, BitTorrent aims to partner with 25 creators by providing cash grants and global promotional support to build impactful releases and discover new fans,” revealed the platform in a blog post shared yesterday. “We are looking for artists, musicians, filmmakers, designers and other creators working on uncompromised projects representing a diverse, original perspective seeking world wide distribution.” It added that the initiative – which is open to anyone in the world – has a “rolling call”. This means that you can apply whenever your project is ready. “(We will provide) $2,500- $100,000 in marketing and distribution funding to use at your discretion,” it concluded.Interested?
