A new bill calling for genital checking in public toilets has been passed by Republicans in Washington state.

The insane legislation, titled Senate bill 6548, has slowly been progressing through America’s legal system over the last few months – and was passed by the state’s Law and Justice committee last week. According to Pink News, the policy hopes to “amend” equality laws, and pushes for businesses to check that people are using the correct facilities for their anatomical makeup.

It reads: “Nothing in this chapter grants any right to a person to access a private facility segregated by gender, such as a bathroom, restroom, toilet, shower, locker room, or sauna, of a public or private entity if the person is preoperative, nonoperative, or otherwise has genitalia of a different gender from that for which the facility is segregated.”

This basically means that people who have “genitalia” of a different gender would be prohibited from using certain toilets, regardless of how they identify. It also implies that it would be legally fine to enforce the law through physical peen and vagina checks – because how else would they be able to check this stuff for sure? 

“We urge all fair-minded people across the state to demand their lawmakers immediately stop these offensive assaults on fairness and equality,” stated Sarah Warbelow of Human Rights Campaign. “We call on the Senate to vote down these dangerous measures if they come to a vote on the floor.” 

It’s not the first time America has shown signs of insane, disheartening regression either. Towards the end of last year, Florida passed a similar law banning trans people from choosing their bathrooms – while some Indiana lawmakers are allegedly pushing for chromosome tests. Probably not the most uplifting news for anyone concerned that we, as a race, could actually be hurtling backwards.
