According to The Hollywood Reporter, Sevigny will take on the role of Borden – an enigmatic women accused of murdering her father and stepmother with an axe back in 1892 (you know how it is). Although she was eventually tried and acquitted of the killings, the film will address speculation by exploring all the events that may have led up to them. Stewart will star alongside Sevigny as the family's live-in maid, Bridget Sullivan. At the time, the murders attracted widespread controversy in America – even inspiring their own creepy children's rhyme: “Lizzie Borden took an ax/and gave her mother 40 whacks/when the job was finally done/gave her father 41.” Unfortunately, they remain unsolved even 100 years later – though some theorists believe that Borden may have been having a lesbian love affair with Sullivan, and that they were covering for each other during the trials. The film may not go down that road, but just take a second to imagine how brilliant it would be if it did. Pieter Van Hees, who directed the 2014 film Waste Land, will take the helm of the untitled psychological thriller. Filming details and release dates are yet to be announced. Escape the algorithm!
