People celebrated around the world, but there are always some who are pissed off about the happiness of others, like the officials from Alabama who have banned marriage altogether so that gay people can’t tie the knot. In the wake of the country’s gay marriage ruling, at least three counties in Alabama have made it illegal to get hitched, whatever your orientation. Honorable Fred Hamic from Geneva County says that he is just using his rights as a judge to refuse marriage licences. He told the Dothan Eagle: "Section 30-1-9 of the Alabama Code of 1975 says a probate judge may issue a marriage licence... It doesn’t say a probate judge has to issue a marriage licence... I will not be doing any more ceremonies." Alabama did briefly allow same-sex marriage in 2013, when the federal Supreme Court declared it constitutional, but they stopped after the state’s Supreme Court banned it. Now it’s legal across the US, the only way the more 'traditional' states can stop same-sex couples from getting married is to stop everyone from doing so. The state’s Supreme Court chief justice told CNN that the landmark ruling was worse than the 19th century decision to uphold racial segregation. "I believe it’s worse because it affects our entire system of morality and family values," said Roy Moore. Senator Ted Cruz described the ruling as "one of the darkest hours in our nation’s history" in an interview. It's actually kind of hard to fathom the idea that anybody cares this much about who other people marry.
