Arts+CultureNewsMen's Rights graffiti spotted around LondonIt’s been sighted at Waterloo, Blackfriars and Southwark – and people aren’t impressedShareLink copied ✔️June 20, 2015Arts+CultureNewsTextDazed Digital If you’ve found yourself strolling through an underpass in Central London lately, you might have noticed some new public “art” that’s appeared over the last couple of weeks. Someone – presumably with fedora brim pulled down over their brow – has taken to the streets around Waterloo, Blackfriars Bridge and Southwark to spray a series of ominous orange messages. Mostly “Mens rights London 5-8-15” and some stuff about feminists supporting abuse. While it’s not clear what this date might be referring to, we have to say: if they were trying to be scary, they should at least have used a stencil. Unsurprisingly, Londoners are not impressed by it all. “It looks like some weak attempt by ‘Mens Rights London’. Some people have no sense,” wrote a commenter on a community site, expressing frustration that the MRAs had chosen to deface the signage of a children’s playground that provides a free play area for local families, no doubt a hotbed of evil misandrist activity. “Terrible handwriting...” responded another. Elsewhere, the graffiti near Blackfriars Bridge has been lovingly added to. “Yeah, you kind of already have [Men’s Rights], what with living in a patriarchy and all.” Over on Reddit, the plot thickens – two days before the graffiti was first noticed by the locals on the community forum, one poster on /r/mensrights (potentially just a troll who has since deleted their account) wrote to see if any fellow MRA’s wanted to “meet tonight for bank holiday weekend, have some drinks.” Was this a bank holiday booze up turned vandalism spree? Did a group of dudebros, fuelled by cheap Jägerbombs at Elephant and Castle bowling alley and memories of girls that turned them down finally decide enough was enough? Who knows. Maybe it’s an elaborate scheme by feminists determined to sully the good name of misogyny? We’ll have to wait for 5-8-15...
