Sorting it out at Tatty Devine

Bright red oranges, mounted on velvet cushions like trophies, and a sequence of fish heads preserved in salt.

"We are all products of our personal experiences", says sculpture artist Amaia Allende, whose new exhibition "Out of Sorts Part 1" is being held at jewellery shop Tatty Devine in Brick Lane, London. Strange and everyday objects grouped together in rows to make them belong together, "belonging" being the theme of the exhibition. Other works include wrinkly figs displayed in their different stages of maturing, hung on the wall like a scientific diagram.
Dazed Digital: How does your work relate to jewellery?
Amaia Allende: It doesn't, the common denominator is the plastic material that we use, Tatty Devine use perspex and I work in resin.
DD: This is your first solo show, and it's titled "Part 1", can we expect a sequel?
AA: This shop is a small space and I have more work so yes there will be a part 2.
Rosie Wolfenden, co-founder and designer of Tatty Devine jewlery, is an old friend of Allende and says of the exhibition: "This is the 30th exhibition held in our shop, it's nice to have something interesting on the wall and to work together with different artists."
DD: Which of the sculptures has caught your eye the most?
Rosie Wolfenden: My favorite of Amaia's work is the lime green velvet pieces decorated with long blonde locks of hair, I find them really weird.
"Out of Sorts Part 1" by Amaia Allende on at Tatty Devine, 236 Brick Lane 16th Jan – 8th March. Open daily 11am-6pm.
