The infamous garage/punk lot Black Lips and Pierced Arrows are set to join forces on a split EP out this July - with one new song from each. As part of series Scion AV are running, they will be one of the bands booked to play a free show in New York City alondside the release of a limited edition 7" record whereby all sales will go directly to the artists. Dazed ask Black Lips about what's going on in their musical and otherwise, lives.

Dazed Digital: Apparently you've had pretty crazy shows in your time. What do you think someone would have to do on stage for it to go 'too far'?
Black Lips: Kill somebody or an animal or molest a child or something. I wouldn't do those things but at the same time I don’t believe in any rules or morals in art (that's for church or the police and they don't even follow them) you do the art you believe in and if people don't like it that belongs to them. GG Allin is one of my favorite artists of all time. He often claimed he was going to kill himself and others at one of his concerts. I and most people who went to his shows believed he was capable of it. Yet they still went night after night possibly for such a thrill I don’t know.

DD: Did you know Pierced Arrows well before this split EP thing?
Black Lips: Yes, we originally saw them when they were the seminal northwest punk band Dead Moon.

DD: Any dream collaborators?
Black Lips: Kenneth Anger maybe for a music video. There is a new cat names Kermit Williams I would also like to collab with or Wendy Rene.

DD: Having travelled around so much, what's been your favourite city so far?
Black Lips: I don't know, there are so many, New Orleans is great and San Francisco.

DD: How are your side projects going?
Black Lips: Ghetto Cross (me and Bradford cox) is on hold cause we’re all so busy. I was just trying to write a song for Charlotte Gainsbourg, but I figured she wouldn't like the song I wrote so I gave up. Jared has a band called the Gaye Blades.

DD: What's next?
Black Lips: We’re working on our new album were spending extra time with it trying to make it real good.
