For London fans of Eugene Hütz's (frontman of New York gypsy-punk band Gogol Bordello, who also played Alex in the film version of Jonathan Safran Foer's Everything is Illuminated) Thursday 25th January will already be heavily highlighted in their diaries, as he comes to the ICA in London for the Vladivar Foundation's four-pronged celebration of his Eugene-ness.

The first prong of the night features a screening of young British/Czech director Pavla Fleischer's documentary The Pied Piper of Hützovina, in which she follows the Gypsy-Punk back to his roots in search of his musical hero, Russian seven-string guitarist Sasha Kolpakov. Intimate and very entertaining the film belies the tension experienced by Fleischer over producing a version of the film that Eugene was happy with, as her admiration for him clashed with her desire for artistic honesty.

After the lights go up Pavla and Eugene himself will take part in a Q&A session, a unique opportunity to get under the skin of the Dirty Old Clown. This will be followed by a gig in the theatre as Eugene and his hero Sasha Kolpakov join other musicians on stage for a journey through traditional gypsy sounds, far removed from the manic fusion of Gogol  Bordello's live sets.

As if this wasn't enough Eugene already, the night will round up with a Balkan-infused club night, at which Eugene himself will  be flipping vinyl, along with Roots & Shoots and Costa Urbana DJs, until  1am. When asked to comment on the evening for Dazed Digital, Pavla sums it  up very nicely: "The mix of tradition  and modernity, of a geeky punk and a classical maestro, of extravagant  Russians and Ukrainians in the midst of a British institution... it's all  very, very exciting for me."
