Cassie Ramone (guitar, vocals), Kickball Katy (bass, vocals) and Ali Koehler (drums, vocals) aks Vivian Girls play London’s Lexington on June 12th and give us their recommendations…Can you recommend......three new bands?1) The Beets. They are three Puerto Rican teenagers from Queens. The only bands they like are the Beatles and the Beach Boys and the result is a bunch of weird but beautiful and really catchy garage pop songs. 2) Rare Form. This is a new punk band fronted by some of our girlfriends in Brooklyn. They rule!3) Nude Beach. Our friend Ryan drums for this band. Two of his nicknames are "Great Ryan" and "Cutie." Need I say more?...three old bands?1) Los Saicos.2) The Tammys. A weird 60’s girl group for fans of the B-52’s. 3) The Bananas. My favourite band of all time besides the Wipers; they’ve been around for almost 20 years in the underground punk scene. I can't speak highly enough of this band....a record label?Woodsist. It’s run by Jeremy from Woods. He has a great aesthetic, and he always picks great artists and treats his releases with care....a website?Videothing.com. Our friend Michael interviews and documents bands with his own special twist and puts the videos on his website. The first time we met him he interviewed us and kept lunging at us for a crazy zoom effect and we thought it was nuts, but then we saw his videos and realized that they’re rad....a film?“Nobody’s Perfect”. Katy and I bonded hard over this movie back in the day. It’s probably impossible to find due to its extremely low quality, but well worth checking out if you love low-budget 80’s comedies. It was made in 1989, the premise being more or less that of “Ladybugs” (boy cross-dresses as a girl to be on the girl’s sports team because he’s in love with one of the girls on the team) except a college version....a book?“Generation X” by Douglas Coupland. Surreal tales about disillusioned 20-somethings living in the middle of the desert to escape consumerism and white-collar middle-class reality....something on YouTube?A Bollywood version of “Thriller”...a radio show?Black Hole on Viva Radio...something to do on a day off?Go to Coney Island at night, ride the Cyclone and the Wonder Wheel and drink Corona on the beach....a song everyone should hear?“Youth of America” by the Wipers.Vivian Girls “Moped Girls” Directed by Brady Hall Escape the algorithm!
