I was only just touching down last Friday and had missed the Philip Lim menswear show so had an appointment to view it at the showroom. A rather peaceful haven in spite of just being a couple of days away from his Womens collection being shown. This was the first season the men were given their own runway. Previously showing a mere handful of looks withhin the women’s collection. It was very beautiful. Barely there knits and baby soft leather shorts and t-shirts. The Petrou menswear presentation was another cup of tea. More daring and bold. Gimpy masks and loungy smoking jackets from another dimension. Patrik, Ervall showed again at Pier 59 with it’s amazing view of the Hudson river. His collections are always sharp and very cool! Fine details and tailoring for a thoroughly modern man. This seasons clown trend was seen at Chris Benz presentaion, young models stood dressed with plenty of sequins, marabou feathers and colour galore. Like a big party after raiding mama’s dress up box. And lastly, the show that everyone anticipates in NY most, Marc Jacobs. The show was strictly on time, in fact ahead of schedule. Although the production of the show felt strictly business, the collection was everything but. There was an aura of geisha girl and Bjork’s Big Time Sensuality and true to form, things began to feel exciting again! Escape the algorithm!
