Pristine Smut

PristineSmut consists of the combined talents of Central Saint Martins graduates in jewelry and knitwear, the lovely Rosie Kent and Liria Pristine respectively. Using the polished rose gold and twinning it in a strangely symbiotic manner with knitted pieces, the duo create items which transcend ‘costume jewellery’ and become something both beautifully wearable, sultry and undeniably attention grabbing. With their past collections being found in the likes of Hoxton Boutique, working on their Sea Lady window for the boutique’s relaunch and with fashion faves Nova Dando, Charlie Le Mindu, Paloma Faith, Bishi and Patrick Wolf they’ve certainly earnt their stripes. Not that they’ve not been cutting a fine space for themselves of late garnering more attention from fashion editors than Paris Fashion Week invites. The year of PristineSmut seems to be upon us.

Dazed Digital: What is it that inspires you?
Rosie: The desire of people wanting something we've created. I love bold Art Deco color combinations and shapes. I want to depict the dignified manner of that time through my work.
Liria: The process of sampling and the art of knitting. My ever-changing environment in all its various forms, colors, textures, and contrast. Animals, nature and the past.

DD: And the current collection?
PristineSmut: It draws from the 1920s; jazz, their women, and their strength.  Wonderful nonsense.  As vulgarity becomes easily accessible, even nakedness in all its glory is not even enough to excite. We introduce modern pleasures in an elegant, modest light.

DD: Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t there something a touch risqué about the clasps?
PristineSmut: Merely a hint of smut, but only for those who want to see it.

DD: You’ve had quite a string of high profile fans thus far?
PristineSmut: We 're lucky to have an ongoing relationship with the talented Patrick Wolf, he is amazing to play dress-up with, at his Finale shows we also put some wings on the lovely Bishi, and sashed up Mister Owen Pallett, Artist Sarah Maple has also graced our pieces at her Private view.

DD: Rumour has it Tilda Swinton’s a fan?
PristineSmut: We've not heard it, but it would be lovely if she were!

DD: Who would exemplify the PristineSmut sense of style?
PristineSmut: At the moment, we'd have to say The Haus of Gaga and the stylists she works with, her and her team have a good eye for styling and one of a kind pieces, she has already worn some very classic pieces, and of course her Royal Majesty The Queen.

DD: Will you be showing during fashion week?
PristineSmut: We will work towards having a collection this February, we're having a long distance relationship at the moment and taking things slowly.

DD: What’s next for PristineSmut?
PristineSmut: This question must always remain a secret.
