Dazed Digital | Francesco Vezzoli's Greed Online Premiere

Last month, Dazed Digital showed the trailer to Francesco Vezzoli's project Greed, a faux ad campaign for an imagined perfume. Directed by Roman Polanski and featuring Natalie Portman and Michelle Williams embroiled in a fierce battle over the fanciful scent, the spurious campaign attempts to isolate and imitate the hype created by the promotion of a new luxury product in the mass market. The premiere of the final film is being shown at the Gagosian Gallery in Rome tonight and DazedDigital are exclusively screening it online.

Really disappointing after the big build-up - and the creative starpower involved. The hokey catfight with the head-clonking on the floor would be great in a Saturday Night Live sketch, but didn't strike me as particularly sophisticated commentary on the hype and razzle-dazzle of perfume promotion. Also, it was way too literal. All the great, ridiculously pretentious yet compelling 'fume commercials (like those bonkers Obsession ones in the 80s), never made any sense, but the mystery sucked you in!

how dissapointing that - that hit the wall of fail so miserably!!!

  • critic (10/02/2009 15:10:33)

That was almost worst than a student film. I hope Roman Polanski doesn't expect to do more commercials, because this spot isn't going to get him any gigs.

That's hilarious. That must really be some good perfume. My favorite celebrity commercial has to be the Vivica Fox commercial did for the Psychic Friends Network http://www.entertonement.com/clips/70330/Vivica-Fox%27s-Psychic-Friends-Network-Commercial I can't believe she would do something like that.

  • Angel Boring (02/10/2009 22:41:54)

Ummm...wow, massively unimpressive. I'm almost tempted to say Polanski purposely flubbed it because he realized the concept was dumb...

one - Roman Polanski should make a film for children's cologne - maybe he will be more inspired! two - dumb commercial three - would you fight for a perfume as you would for a man? I wonder.... and I am perfume obssessed
