Fashion / NewsInternet-famous ‘teen diva’ now an American Apparel modelSeize your chance in the spotlight! Dreams can come true!ShareLink copied ✔️December 8, 2014FashionNewsText Zing Tsjeng The next time you see a local news crew filming on your street, take your lead from 15-year-old Brendan Jordan and seize your chance to shine. It might land you an American Apparel modelling contract. The Las Vegas teenager was caught on camera vogueing behind a journalist reporting from the opening of a local mall and immediately became a YouTube sensation. And the fact that he was wearing AA leggings didn't escape American Apparel's attention, either. The struggling retailer has picked Jordan, described by Out as the "gayest boy in the world", as the star of its new campaign. The ad's text reads: “Brendan is from Las Vegas, Nevada. He's half Peruvan (his dad was born and raised in Peru) and he learned Spanish from his extended family that helped care for him. He enjoys taking photos, shopping and collecting Disney memorabilia. In the future Brendan hopes to have his own TV show and design a clothing line. His biggest inspirations are his great grandmother Lucy and Lady Gaga. We were inspired by Brendan after seeing his fearless act of spontaneity and applaud his efforts with the LGBTQ community. His favorite styles of ours include the Clear PVC Circle Skirt and anything high-waisted.” To his credit, Jordan has tried to do something a little more meaningful with his five minutes of internet fame beyond setting up the requisite YouTube channel and Twitter account (38,100 followers and counting). The teenager has also campaigned to raise awareness of Spirit Day, which campaigns to stop the bullying of LGBT youth. He made this video to commemorate the day of solidarity in October: Speaking to Today.com, Jordan explained his decision to grab the limelight that fateful evening in October: “I just saw a camera, and did my thing. I was imagining myself as if I were Lady Gaga, and that no one could destroy me.” Watch the original video below: Escape the algorithm!
