Arts+Culture / IncomingDazed & Confused May Issue - Kiss this!Dazed & Confused’s Mavericks Issue heralds the return of The Gossip, with exclusive shoot and interview, plus Werner Herzog, Peaches and many more.ShareLink copied ✔️April 16, 2009Arts+CultureIncoming This month, Dazed & Confused celebrates its favourite free agents – that fearless, unpredictable lot that keep life interesting for the rest of us. Gracing the cover in a Philip Treacy headpiece is The Gossip’s inimitable Beth Ditto, who Dazed met as they were finishing their fourth album at rock legend Rick Rubin’s Malibu mansion. The cover shoot was photographed by Rankin, styled by one of Dazed's fashion editors, Robbie Spencer and features make-up by master of the art Peter Philips, with wildly different looks inside showing the many faces of this iconic performer. Meanwhile, Ditto explains to us why “fate is a strong bitch”, as guitarist Nathan and drummer Hannah open up the band’s personal archive, revealing never-before-seen pictures from their early days, lyric sheets, DIY artwork and much more. Dazed is also granted a rare audience with legendary director Werner Herzog, meets Island Records founder Chris Blackwell, and Depeche Mode’s Dave Gahan; stages an 80s power ballad throwdown between Peaches and voodoo-masked producer Drums of Death; and talks supervillains with legendary rapper MF Doom (formerly MF Doom) and "the man who killed Batman", comics writer Grant Morrison. Meanwhile, photographer James Mooney reflects on his year on the streets with New York “underground fight club” the Spartans. Dazed & Confused April Issue is on sale now. Escape the algorithm!
