Dazed & Confused Teenage Takeover

Under-18s get the chance to dictate the content of Dazed and Confused's forthcoming teenage issue.

  |   Published 17 October 2008

What does it mean to be young and British today?

If you're under 18 and live in the UK, we're giving you the chance to take over our January issue. We’re looking for teenagers who have something to say. Whether you want to be a fashion designer, a writer, a photographer, an MC, or if you simply have no idea what the future holds but have something you want to shout about, we want to hear from you.

Give us an idea for a story that you think will fit into the pages of Dazed. We'll then choose the best, and you will get to call the shots as our team of writers and photographers help you make it.

We’re looking for a personal insight into your way of life. Is there an issue that relates to teenagers that you feel isn’t being addressed properly? Maybe you know someone who has an amazing story to tell. Or maybe you've got one about yourself? Are you part of a scene that people don't know about yet but should? What's being young in the UK today all about?

Get in touch with eleanor@dazedgroup.com – try and be as specific as possible (what or who is this going to be about? where? why?) Tell us your name, how old you are, where you live, and a bit about what you do and what you're into. Send us pictures if you feel it will help explain.

Whether your idea ends up making it into the magazine or not, we'll do our best to make sure that something from everyone gets onto Dazed Digital. And who knows what it might all lead to?

Ideas must be in to us no later than Monday October 27.

  • lcf (23/10/2008 23:08:13)

ahhh an insight into the world of the "beatutiful" people... page after page of superficial glossy dribble cos "sex sells"... do u really want a "real" story from a "real" person or do u just want another meaningless article from another fake person... another glimpse at perfection which seems so very achievable... but unfortunatley what u r creating is mearly a dream... u want an insight into the lives of teens??... they are not perfect... we are not perfect, we are all flawed and its magazines like u who highlight these flaws and turn so very many people to eating dissorders and self harm... so please... dont patronise us...u dont want "real" u want more false stories and airbrushed pictures... but then again... im just a bitter young teenage boy, overlooked and crying out... nobodys listning anyway... nobody cares... so go... get on with your "perfect" lives, but know, ur living in the same dream world u create in your magazines...and i imagine u all live hollow and empty lives...

ye the lcf dude's got a point, magazine airbrushing is helping to screw young society up. But man, noone's listening, cos u aint shouting loud enough. there's no movements any more man. it's just rehash. everythings revival. so maybe ur the guy to get up an start sumting new. maybe. otherwise just conform. it's a choice everyone faces. theres two ways to do things new an exciting; rebel, hope u get noticed alongside all the other rebels. or attack from within. conform to destroy. that's what im tryin to do. hillz fm community radio station in cov, im gettin radio qualifications. whoknows where it'll lead but im gonna get myself to a position where i can influence the youth. shout louder man!

Erm, if the story idea is developed by Dazed writers and accompanied by the work of Dazed photographers then it's not really showcasing young talent is it? Leave this kind of stuff to I-D magazine.

guys, everyone is trying to be perfect but there is no such thing ...If you believe in Religion then you'll know your self that god isn't perfect and if you don't believe in religion and your more mother nature you'll believe its not perfect. we have nothing to base ourselves upon apart from images and in some people mind these pictures are beauty so until you find your own beauty then you have no were else to look for inspiration , and that's low.

Sorry Dazed but I was very sad not to even receive a rejection email back from you RE: Teenage Takeover. I'm 16 tomorrow, have worked with NME.com, readplatform.com and write my own blog yet I was totally ignored. Yes, I am the future of journalism but I guess tooting my own jewel-covered horn wont get me in your magazine. Good day to you, I hope that whoever wins is coherent.

  • Nicks (12/11/2008 21:34:50)

  • georgia (11/12/2008 17:02:41)

i certainly hope rayban$ is not the future of journalism, arrogance doesn't make you a good writer.

  • Rayban$ Collection (01/01/2009 22:34:37)

@ georgia im too embarassed to use my real name & website here, now that i have had a dazed digital article published... not an excuse but loads of shit was going on when i wrote that immature little rant, im not arrogant and i know what hard work is

Dazed, I think that this was a great concept to start out with - but it fell a little short. I'm writing from (in the works) Libertine magazine (www.libertinemagazine.co.uk) and we're doing what other fashion/culture magazines are not. Everything in our magazine with be designed/conceptualized/written/shot/modeled by/featuring under 23s in the UK. Again, well done Dazed for the taking the first step towards creating a platform for ambitious teens to penetrate the media industry. But this is just a shout out to anyone who wants more - get involved, go to www.libertinemagazine.co.uk for more information.
