Have you wiped out yet doing the milk crate challenge?

TikTok says it will censor clips of the ‘dangerous’ viral trend, which sees users attempt to climb up and down a pyramid stack of crates

There’s a viral challenge going around TikTok at the moment: climb and then descend down a pyramid stack of milk crates. Although the premise sounds simple enough, most attempts end in failure – AKA a massive fall onto a painful-looking tower of box-shaped plastic. Amid doctors’ warnings that it’s “worse than falling from a ladder”, TikTok has banned the trend, saying it will remove any videos uploaded to the platform.

Speaking to The Independent, TikTok said that it “prohibits content that promotes or glorifies dangerous acts, and we remove videos and redirect searches to our Community Guidelines to discourage such content”. Yesterday (August 25), the platform removed the #MilkCrateChallenge hashtag, saying it was “associated with behaviour or content that violates our guidelines”.

Nevertheless, loads of people are still attempting the challenge. The best video so far sees a woman climb the stacks in a pair of stiletto heels, succeeding with elegance and grace. The next best clip sees a man called ‘White Mike’ complete the challenge while rolling a blunt – he even coolly stands at the top for a good minute.

Others are not so successful. One man takes a particularly nasty tumble on tower five; another falls onto his head on a concrete pavement; one makes a pretty successful attempt until he flies off backwards on the descent.

Then, there’s the memes: the uncomfortable nightclub explainer on the challenge; the FDA approval of the challenge (see: COVID vaccine joke); and, most notably, Jason Derulo falling down the stairs at the Milk Crate Challenge. You love to see it.
