See a very slick Keanu Reeves as a video game character in Cyberpunk 2077

The role-playing game is set in a dystopian near-future

International film heavyweight and world’s favourite human being Keanu Reeves has confirmed a cameo in CD Projekt Red’s upcoming video game Cyberpunk 2077.

Launched at this year’s Microsoft E3, the Polish publisher’s Cyberpunk 2077 is a reimagining of the 1988 Pondsmith classic, Cyberpunk 2020, a sci-fi role-playing game set in a dystopian near-future.

“A while back, the guys from CD Projekt Red approached me and asked me to be a part of their new project, Cyberpunk 2077. They were going on and on about how they create this vast and open world with a branching storyline, how you’d be able to customise your character through in-game choices. It’s not something I knew before, but I was excited by it. And I’m always drawn to fascinating stories,” said Reeves at the event.

“Cyberpunk is set in a metropolis of the future, where body modification has become an obsession. You play as an outlaw, an enhanced merecenary, working in the sleazy underbelly of the city - let me tell you, the feeling of being there, of walking the streets of the future, is really going to be breathtaking,” he explained.

The trailer sees Reeves function as a main character, but not one you play as. Even so, if his characters in The Matrix and John Wick are anything to go by, you’ll definitely want him on your team.

Video games-world Keanu has come a pretty long way from his first appearance in the digital world, Reeves also appeared in The Matrix: Path of Neo, a 2005 video game, in which he looks more anthropomorphic sci-fi potato than anything.

The game is scheduled to release April 16 2020.
