Jazmin Bean is the up-and-coming musician with a standout beauty aesthetic. Based in London – and regarded as a pioneer for their approach to aesthetics – they can often be seen with boundary-defying make-up that rivals that of special effects filters. “I create music and film that pushes the boundaries of beauty and societal standards,” Bean says, “and throws itself into extremes.” Following the release of their Worldwide Torture EP last year – which included five songs that spanned various genres, with a focus on heavy metal and pop – Bean is now hard at work on their upcoming visual album, which they are producing entirely by themselves without a studio.
Beyond their work in music and beauty – which is inspired by Tim Burton and heavy metal – Bean represents a fearlessness in pushing boundaries with traditional mainstream media. Their approach in everything is to be extreme and unexpected. Take, for example, their heavy metal-like music with pop vocals, juxtaposed with pastel lolita style dresses and make-up transformations. “I want to influence the future by pushing boundaries politically, musically, in film, beauty, and in the mainstream media. A lot needs to change, and loud art is the best way to do it,” they explain.
What issues or causes are you passionate about and why?
Jazmin Bean: Animal rights – I feel like humans really need to get off the earth so that animals can roll out. Also, I’m passionate about ending capitalism and everyone being equal.

What gives you hope?
Jazmin Bean: I would say film and music are the things that give me the most hope on days where I really feel like there is none. Also the people I surround myself with – friends and activists – and the way they fight for what they believe in.
What creative or philanthropic project would you work on with a grant from the Dazed 100 Ideas Fund?
Jazmin Bean: I will invest the money into a really important piece for my album, which won’t feature just music, but also film. I want to put everything I know and have into this body of work.
