Originally from Gothenburg, Sweden, Daniel Sällström moved to London when he was 20 and never looked back. Quickly making a name for himself on the London queer nightlife scene as drag queen @innitbabes, Sallstrom’s flair for make-up artistry was soon spotted by someone from MAC who offered him a job.

Skip forward a few years, and Sallstrom’s work is everywhere, from the camo spray paint looks on Mowalola’s runway, to Jack Kilmer’ Norweigan black metal look on the cover of Dazed, and a seriously impressive list of pop culture queens: Michele Lamy, Tilda Swinton, Kate Moss, Grace Jones, Cyndi Lauper and Madonna. A recent NOWNESS film with Isaac Lock, Fashion Disciples: Black, meanwhile, sees a fashion shoot go terribly awry in a darkly comedic satire that parodies the beauty industry ego at its most ridiculous.

Citing “women, femmes, drag, old school icons and heroes like Holly Woodlawn, Cookie Mueller, Pete Burns, culture clashes, freaks, and subcultures” as a few of many inspirations, Sällström creates hedonistic avant-garde looks with a joyful and unrestrained use of colour and shape, sparing no creative expense.
