The British-Muslim model proving you can work in fashion while upholding your faith
It’s taken far too long to get here, but the fashion industry seems to have finally embraced the idea of featuring hijabi models on the runway. One face paving the way is Swedish-born, Bristol-based Muslim model Ikram Abdi Omar – proof that you can work in fashion without sacrificing your faith.
Making her LFW debut at Molly Goddard’s AW18 show – which was staged in a fake kitchen – Abdi Omar was part of an exciting cast of real faces who paraded down the runway in the designer’s tulle creations, led by longtime model Edie Campbell. Elsewhere, she featured in presentations for labels Ryan Lo and Nicopanda.
When she isn’t on the catwalk, the model also has a YouTube channel where she posts videos which reveal her down-to-earth personality. We would love to see her go from reviewing Fenty Beauty on YouTube to fronting the real thing, but in the meantime, she is set to star in an upcoming campaign with cosmetic brand Smashbox.
