In 2019, the North Carolina-born artist’s second single “Stupid” went viral on TikTok, shot to the top of various charts and gained her overnight stardom. Viral fame can be a fickle thing, but she has since proved she has legitimate staying power. Over the last few years, Ashnikko has collaborated with the likes of Grimes, Brooke Candy, Doja Cat, Kelis, and Princess Nokia, and in 2023 she released her debut album WEEDKILLER to widespread acclaim. In her own words, she makes “angry, punk, hip hop, sad-girl-feminist, bubblegum, poo-poo music”, and draws from an electric range of influences – everyone from Missy Elliott to Dolly Parton. With her trademark electric-blue hair and Tokyo-inspired wardrobe, she has also become something of a style icon. So what does the future have in store? As she wraps up touring, we had a Dazed Day Out with Ashnikko at She’s Lost Control – a wellness shop on Broadway Market – where resident tarot reader expert Agne sat down with the rapper to find out what’s on the cards. Will she embrace her inner Fool, overcome her challenges, and finally manage to “wear a gown in a vineyard for real”? Ashnikko – Dazed Day OutEscape the algorithm!
