Ever since the release of their debut single “Cardboard Box” last year, UK pop trio FLO has been making waves at the next Big Thing. The group, comprised of Jorja Douglas, Renée Downer and Stella Quaresma, began life in 2019 after being put together by Universal Records imprint Listen Generously, working their way to stardom with nostalgic early-2000s R&B sounds and slick choreography that celebrate the 00s girl group legacy – parallels have been drawn to Destiny’s Child and TLC – but with a Gen Z, TikTok-friendly twist that saw them win the Brits Rising Star award and the BBC’s Sound of 2023 prize.

With support from icons such as Missy Elliot and SZA, the trio have been racing through the year – they starred in Dazed’s spring 2023 issue and recently stunned audiences at Glastonbury. This week, they surprise dropped a new EP 3 Of Us accompanied by artwork featuring all three members showing off their matching tattoos of the number three. The caption on the group’s Instagram post announcing the EP read: “A gift to the FLO Lifers who have been waiting so patiently for new music, we hope this will keep you fed whilst we finish off the album. Made with love.” Featuring Timbaland-style beats courtesy of producer MNEK – frequently referred to as the band’s fourth member – the four-track EP is a short and sweet taste of what’s to come, with sultry beats and ever-evolving harmonies that balance past iterations of R&B with a distinctly crisp sound and emotionally frank lyrics that live up to the hype.

Elsewhere, Anohni and the Johnsons shares a stunning sixth studio album, Tohji and gummyboy release another mixtape under their Mall Boyz moniker, and PJ Harvey returns with her first album in seven years.
