New Music Friday: 5 albums to stream this week

Felicita shares a psychedelic album, Snow Strippers transcend on a surprise mixtape, and Skiifall is carving out a unique sound on his latest EP

Snow Strippers, the Michigan duo made up of members Tatiana Schwaninger and Graham Perez, are on the cusp of something big. Coming up as part of 2021’s indie sleaze wave, they built a hyper-dedicated online fanbase thanks to their euphoric string of electro-pop releases, including 2022’s eponymous debut and April Mixtape 2, not to mention a track on YEAR0001’s coveted RIFT Two compilation. Already gaining comparisons to Crystal Castles and Salem, their April Mixtape 3 – released today – is a sprawling 16-track record that flexes the hotly-tipped duo’s explosive strain of electronica, with ravey and explosive tracks that ooze with nihilistic abandon. It’s an essential soundtrack for anyone who wants to dance the weight of the world away.

Featuring singles and videos for “Under Your Spell” and “Don’t You Feel”, there’s a coolness to Schwaninger’s vocal transmissions that drift airily across stabbing synthlines, which seem to only build in intensity, growing more hedonistic as the record unfurls. Closing track “It’s A Dream” is a pulverising dance floor banger, and features a wild crossover with Lil Uzi Vert on vocals. The track was meant to hit ahead of his SNL debut, now cancelled due to the writer’s strikes, but nevertheless signals Snow Stripper’s journey from scene linchpin to global domination.

Elsewhere, PC Music's Felicita shares a psychedelic album, LCY explores themes of dysphoria on a new release, and Skiifall is carving out a unique sound on his latest EP.
