Britney Spears shares new allegations of her life under conservatorship

In a 22-minute voice memo shared on her YouTube channel, the singer revealed she felt like ‘a robot’ and ‘a machine’ during her conservatorship

Since Britney’s conservatorship ended, fans have wondered how she might tell the inside story of her 13-year-long ordeal which kept her stringently locked under her father’s control.

Since November 2021, Spears has been candid about her traumatic experience on social media – but she’s never gone into too much depth. Now, she’s uploaded a 22-minute-long voice memo to her official YouTube channel, detailing new allegations about her conservatorship. It’s since been taken down from the platform, but the audio is still widely available.

At the beginning of the voice note, Spears explained she has been offered “tons of opportunities” to share her full story, but decided to turn them all down. She revealed that she was even offered the chance to sit down with Oprah – for “lots of money” – but also declined the invite.

“I get nothing out of sharing all of this,” Spears said in the memo. “I have offers to do interviews with Oprah and so many people [for] lots and lots of money, but it’s insane. I don’t want any of it. For me, it’s beyond a sit-down proper interview.”

Spears added that she’d taken her time to speak out because she has “always been scared of the judgement and definitely the embarrassment” of what others would think. “I’m in a place now where I’m a little bit more confident that I can be willing to share openly my thoughts and what I’ve been through,” she said.

Spears explained what happened in the early days of her conservatorship, which began when she was just 25. “I honestly still to this day I don’t know what really I did, but [due to] the punishment of my father I wasn’t able to see anyone,” Spears said. “You have to imagine none of it made sense to me. [...] there was a SWAT team in my home, three helicopters…”

“Four hours later, there were over 200 paparazzi outside my house video-taping me through a window of an ambulance, holding me down on a gurney,” she says.

Spears added that she believes the conservatorship was “premeditated” and organised by a “woman” who introduced the idea to her parents. “It was all basically set up. There was no drugs in my system, no alcohol, nothing. It was pure abuse. And I haven’t even really shared half of it.”

Spears went on explain the extent to which her father, Jamie Spears, controlled her life. “He loved to control everything I did,” she recalls. “I remember the first day he said I’m Britney Spears, and I’m calling the shots… and I’m like, alrighty then.”

She recalls watching her friends go out, drink, and enjoy themselves while she was forced to stay in and was banned from carrying her own cash. “They made me feel like nothing, and I went along with it because I was scared,” she continued. “I was just like a robot, honestly. I didn’t give a fuck anymore [...] I was a machine. I was a fucking machine, not even human almost. It was insane.”

She also reiterated her previous claim that she was forced into a mental health facility in 2019 because she objected to a dance move during one of her rehearsals. “I said ‘I don’t want to do this’, and I just remember everything got really weird and quiet. All the directors and producers went in the backroom and spoke, and that was it,” she recalls. “The next day I was told that I would have to be sent away to a facility.” She went on to say that when she pushed back against the decision, her father told her they would take her to court and she “would lose”.

Britney is planning on releasing a book detailing her side of the story and her lawyer, Mathew Rosengart, is actively investigating allegations that her father and his co-conservators unlawfully spied on the music superstar.
