A new trailer has arrived for ABBA’s upcoming concert series, ABBA Voyage, offering a closer look at the Swedish pop group’s digital avatars.
The series of shows at London’s Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park — billed as a “revolutionary concert 40 years in the making” — is set to begin in spring 2022, having been delayed several times since the group first announced their ‘ABBAtars’ tour in 2017.
The 20-second Voyage teaser also arrives alongside a new album of the same name (released November 5). Coming 40 years after the release of their last studio album, 1981’s The Visitors, the record features 10 new tracks, including the previously-shared “I Still Have Faith In You” and “Don’t Shut Me Down”.
Next year’s shows will feature performances of the new music, alongside some of ABBA’s iconic classics (the preview itself is soundtracked by 1978’s “Summer Night City”). Benny Andersson, Björn Ulvaeus, Agnetha Fältskog, and Anni-Frid Lyngstad won’t perform in person, however, opting instead for a virtual appearance in Tron-style suits.
“We simply call it Voyage and we’re truly sailing in uncharted waters,” say the pop icons in a statement. “With the help of our younger selves, we travel into the future. It’s not easy to explain but then it hasn’t been done before.”
An additional batch of tickets for ABBA Voyage — with bookings available up to December 4, 2022 — has gone on sale with the release of the new trailer, which you can watch below.
