A first look at the ‘intimate’ Kanye West documentary coming to Netflix

Titled Jeen-Yuhs, the film has been in the making for 21 years

A teaser trailer for Jeen-Yuhs, the decade-spanning Kanye West documentary that was acquired by Netflix back in April, has arrived.

Unveiled during the streaming giant’s “Tudum” livestream event, the first-look clip features a young Ye rapping “Two Words”, a track from his debut studio album The College Dropout, alongside collaborator Mos Def.

Directed by Coodie Simmons and Chike Ozah — the duo behind the rapper’s early videos for “Jesus Walks (Version 3)” and “Through the Wire” — Jeen-Yuhs is set to include footage captured over the course of 21 years, including previously-unseen home videos. West apparently isn’t creatively involved, but allowed the filmmakers “intimate” access over the course of the production.

According to a statement, the three-part film will explore “both his formative days trying to break through and his life today as a global brand and artist”. It was previously reported to cover his ill-fated presidential run in 2020, as well as the 2007 death of his mother, who was commemorated in his latest Donda video, “Donda Chant”.

Jeen-Yuhs is set to premiere on Netflix in 2022, though a specific release date is yet to be announced. Watch the new teaser trailer below.
