In an audio clip shared from the Destiny’s Child group chat in May, Beyoncé hinted that she’s “cooking some music”. Now, the musician has confirmed that it's officially on its way.
Featuring on the cover of Harper’s Bazaar's September issue, the musician teased her seventh studio album, stating: “Yes! New music is coming.”
“I’ve been in the studio for a year and a half. Sometimes it takes a year for me to personally search through thousands of sounds to find just the right kick or snare. One chorus can have up to 200 stacked harmonies,” she said. “Still, there’s nothing like the amount of love, passion, and healing that I feel in the recording studio. After 31 years, it feels just as exciting as it did when I was nine years old.”
While she didn’t drop any specifics about the music, Beyoncé did explain that “all the isolation and injustice over the past year” has pushed her to start creating. “I think we are all ready to escape, travel, love, and laugh again. I feel a renaissance emerging, and I want to be part of nurturing that escape in any way possible,” she said.
Prior appearing on Megan Thee Stallion’s “Savage Remix” in 2020, the singer released her latest full project, visual album Black Is King. Written, directed, and produced by herself, the album honours “the voyages of Black families” throughout time. It also includes collaborations with Kendrick Lamar, Tierra Whack, Childish Gambino, Blue Ivy Carter, and Jay-Z.
Elsewhere in the interview, Beyoncé discussed her frustration with her record label prior to launching her own production company, Parkwood Entertainment. Specifically, the artist mentioned that after being told by her label that fans don’t like black-and-white photography, she released “Single Ladies”, “If I Were a Boy”, and the entire I Am…Sasha Fierce artwork with black-and-white themes.
“(They) ended up being my biggest commercial success to date,” she said. “I try to keep the human feeling and spirit and emotion in my decision-making.”
