Last month, Lorde finally shared details of her long-awaited third album, Solar Power, dropped its summery title track, and announced a world tour. Now, fans can get a taste of what to expect when the singer hits the road in February 2022, as Lorde has appeared on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert to perform “Solar Power” on an New York rooftop.
The artist joined the show as its musical guest, staging her performance on the roof of NYC’s Ed Sullivan Theatre. Dressed in a yellow co-ord similar to the one she wore in the single’s video, Lorde sang atop a mirrored platform, with bubbles floating all around her.
Solar Power marks Lorde’s return since her 2017 album Melodrama, and is set to be released on August 20. The record will contain 12 tracks and two bonus tracks, with the majority of the song titles including references to nature.
“The album is a celebration of the natural world, an attempt at immortalising the deep, transcendent feelings I have when I’m outdoors,” the singer said in an email newsletter sharing the album’s details. “In times of heartache, grief, deep love, or confusion, I look to the natural world for answers. I’ve learned to breathe out, and tune in. This is what came through.”
Honouring the album’s nature theme, Lorde’s world tour – which will begin in her home of New Zealand – will mostly take place in “theatres and green fields rather than arenas”.
Alongside Solar Power’s announcement, Lorde dropped a collection of ec-conscious album merch, including ethically- made t-shirts and hoodies, two vinyls, and a music box (which serves as an alternative to CDs).
