Channelling the studded leather grit from her recent covers of Blondie’s “Heart of Glass” and Stevie Nicks’ “Edge of Seventeen”, Plastic Hearts sees Cyrus move away from the enormous pop bangers of “Wrecking Ball” and “Party in the USA”, towards the raw attitudes of rock’n’roll and country music. Rebellious guitar-heavy melodies are bolstered by the singer’s throaty vocals as Cyrus brings punk onto the dancefloor. Elsewhere, Bad Bunny releases his third (!) record of 2020, south London rapper Flohio drops an ambitious new mixtape, and Tayla Parx’s Coping Mechanisms is a treat of a breakup album.
