Thundercat says he and Grande are ‘forever connected’ through Mac Miller

Ariana Grande has joined Thundercat for a performance of “Them Changes”, a track first released on the latter musician’s The Beyond / Where the Giants Roam EP back in 2015.

The pair teamed up during the first day of Adult Swim Festival, with Grande joining Thundercat live onstage. It’s not Grande’s first time singing on the track though, since she previously took it on in a cover for BBC Radio 1’s Live Lounge in 2018, then calling it her “favourite song of the past year and a half”.

“It feels like Ariana and I are forever connected through Mac,” says Thundercat in a statement following the new live performance, referring to collaborator Mac Miller, “and this is part of the healing process.”

Adult Swim Festival began yesterday (November 13), additionally featuring performances from Kamasi Washington and Hereditary composer Colin Stetson. Ending today (November 14), the virtual festival will also see Rico Nasty perform, with a headline slot reserved for Robyn.

Last month, Ariana Grande also released her sixth studio album – and follow-up to 2019’s thank u, nextPositions, alongside a presidential video for the title track.
