Tory Lanez is charged with felony assault in Megan Thee Stallion shooting

If convicted, Lanez faces up to 22 years and eight months in prison

Tory Lanez is facing fresh charges in connection to his July 12 arrest on a concealed firearm charge, following an incident in the Hollywood Hills which saw Megan Thee Stallion claim that he shot her in the feet.

The new charges, according to a statement released by the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office, include assault with a semiautomatic firearm, personal use of a firearm, and carrying a loaded, unregistered firearm in a vehicle. The statement also notes that Lanez, born Daystar Peterson, “faces a gun allegation and that he personally inflicted great bodily injury”.

While Megan Thee Stallion isn’t mentioned by name in the release of new information, the District Attorney’s Office states: “Tory Lanez has been charged with assaulting a female friend in the Hollywood Hills earlier this year.”

Since Megan Thee Stallion’s initial announcement that she had suffered gunshot wounds, the rapper has alleged that Lanez fired the shots, saying, “Yes... Tory shot me,” in an Instagram Live video. “You shot me, and you got your publicist and your people going to these blogs lyin’ and shit. Stop lyin’. Why lie?”

More information about the shooting has trickled out since then, including evidence that Lanez sent a text to Megan after the alleged shooting, seemingly apologising and saying: “I was just too drunk.”

If convicted on the charges, Lanez faces a possible maximum sentence of 22 years and eight months in prison, according to the statement. His arraignment is scheduled for October 13.
