In an interview with The Associated Press, the Bad Gal herself shed some light on the ongoing creative process. As well as revealing she’s held a series of songwriting camps to get the bangers started, she spoke about her emotional relationship with the album and music-making right now. “What do I feel personally? What do I want to put out, and as an artist, how do I want to play it with my art? How do I want to interpret that?” she said. Ultimately, it seems like R9 is going to be on her terms – although that may mean her fans have to wait a little longer: “You do pop, you did this genre, you do that, you do radio, but now it’s just like, what makes me happy? I just want to have fun with music. Everything is so heavy. The world that we live in is a lot. It’s overwhelming every single day. And with the music, I’m using that as my outlet.” Whatever happens, she does have one promise: “I’m gonna get it done.” In the meantime, we can get our Rihanna fix with her new Savage X Fenty show – which streams tonight on Amazon Prime.
