In the clip, Del Rey reads from the manuscript while the light-touch instrumentation of collaborator Jack Antonoff plays in the background. “Get out of my blood, salamander,” she reads. “I can’t seem to blow off enough steam to get you out of my head / Soul cycle you to death, run you out of my blood to San Pedro / And yet, everywhere I go, it seems there you are / And there I am.” Violet Bent Backwards Over the Grass is one of two poetry collections that Del Rey says she plans to release in 2020. The other, titled behind the iron gates - insights from an institution, does not yet have a release date, though she shared “patent leather do-over” from that collection in May. Lana Del Rey plans to donate some proceeds from Violet Bent Backwards Over the Grass to Native American charities, previously staing that she was attempting to raise $1,035,000 for the Navajo Water Project over the coming month.
