The first posthumous Daniel Johnston release is coming

The End is Never Really Together is a new boxset of the late singer-songwriter’s work

A posthumous Daniel Johnston boxset will arrive for Record Store Day 2020, marking the late singer-songwriter’s first release since his death last year.

The new boxset, titled The End is Never Really Together – includes vinyl pressings of out-of-print records 1990 and Artistic Vice. They will be made available on Record Store Day, taking place on August 29 – rescheduled from its original April date due to coronavirus.

The boxset will also include stickers of Johnston’s artwork, a 16-page artbook of his drawings, and a pin of his ‘Jeremiah the Frog’ illustration. There will also be a FOLK t-shirt with Johnston’s Captain America ‘End of the Show’ drawing.

Johnston – a cult musician and artist whose fans included Kurt Cobain, Tom Waits, and Matt Groening – died in September from a suspected heart attack. Following his death, his brother revealed that he left behind a large amount of unpublished music and illustrations that might one day be released.

Since Johnston’s death, his art has been used in collections from Supreme and from Vans.
