In the video, the musician wields a sword in front of a large green screen. There’s not much to it visually, but that’s the point – she’s asking fans to finish the video themselves. As Grimes explains in the video description on YouTube, she originally shot the green screen footage to create five lyric videos as visuals for her recent album Miss Anthropocene. “Because we’re all in lockdown we thought if people are bored and wanna learn new things, we could release the raw components of one of these for anyone who wants to try making stuff using our footage,” she writes. The assets include snippets for the shoot as well as audio files so that fans can build up their own visual from scratch. Further down the YouTube description, she also suggests cheap or free audio and video editing software to use, and instructions of how to upload fan versions so that she can share her favourites on social media. “We were inspired by all the amazing art that gets sent our way, so hoping some of these things are of use when the days are long and lonely,” Grimes adds. “Anyway, I hope everybodies doing OK!” Download the assets here, and watch the incomplete video below.
