Mac DeMarco, Jerry Paper, and other musicians appear in a trippy 90s-style infomercial for the launch of Eternal Family, an “artist-run membership experience and a place to try out new ideas”.
The membership, which costs $5 per month or $50 per year, offers unlimited ad-free access to content, including a conceptual web series by DeMarco on “building an echo chamber” and tutorials by songwriter Paper on funk music. There’s also a (bizarre) section dedicated to free HD stock videos for “personal and commercial projects”, as well as a section titled “old ones”, featuring vintage cartoons, presumably curated by Mac and the crew.
In a recent Instagram post, 3D artist (and maker of this uncomfortably weird music video for DeMarco’s “Here Comes the Cowboy”) Cole Kush noted that “60 per cent of the monthly (Eternal Family) revenue goes to our creators and the rest to operations and funds to create and license more interesting things”.
He added: “The goal is to create stable income and a place to try out ideas that can be self-produced and perhaps hard to pitch. More monthly users = more funds to create more shows and add apps for mobile and TV.”
